Women and Social Media, both these terms together are pretty hard to comment on, while it has been a perception that men have been more involved with social media compared to women. Presently, studies have been conducted that states that men are less pro-active as compared to Women.
This has been a new study that has been conducted by iVillage & BlogHer, approximately 73% of women are said to be active on such social networking platforms and they are now engaging themselves on frequent basis on this entire social networking portals. Rapleaf, an Internet technology based company conducted a study on gender influence and different ages groups that are associated with social networking mediums and this has been highlighted that women are more involved as compared to men on most of these social networking mediums with considerable exception of Flickr and LinkedIn.
Current study indicated that women are relying more on messaging & blogging stuff as compared to Men. They are seeking recommendations and advices through these social networking channels. In the Blogging or even in the case of purchasing or buying new products/services, women are more involved and the percentage is more than 70% in both the scenarios. What’s ‘cooking’??? It could be something in your mind as you may be thinking to prepare something with your hands preferring hand-made stuff in your own kitchen. For this reason, you can try out the new feature of Google named as ‘Recipe View’. This feature has been introduced by Google which will be telling you about the instructions related to any recipe. However, the bad news is that this feature is currently made available in Japan and the United States until now but will be introduced in other countries as well depending on its success rate.
According to Google Product Manager, Kavi Goel, contrasting his parents who could cook a dish by intuitively adding an accurate amount of spices in frequent basis of their gut feeling, this particular technique did not work well for a computer and math geek such as him. Therefore, with this new feature, a large number of people who prefer having accurate instructions and numbers can be benefited while cooking their food.
The search engine functions accurately as an eBook and it has all the recipes listed in it. The search terms vary from names of different dishes to the seasoned foods such as holidays or strawberries. Moreover, all the recipes have been rated that appear in the search results. On the other hand, the search results can even be filtered by inputting your criteria such as ingredients, calorie count, as well as cooking time!
Goel further stated that this ‘Recipe View’ feature would be released shortly as some test results are awaited and soon it will be doled out to other countries as soon as it becomes a ‘seasoned’ player.
We cannot deny the fact that Google has now easily replaced the word of search especially in the new generation. Google is no more used as a noun but verb amongst youngsters. I saw a small clip on what people have searched in 2009 world over so I thought of writing something specifically to Pakistan.
Well, lets first see where we are going in terms of Internet usage. The broadband penetration rate in Pakistan is increasing and thanks to PTCL for starting the price war in broadband industry. The increasing rate of broadband can also been verified with the top searches in Pakistan. While looking at the past trends on Google Insights, I came to know that the keyword “facebook” is amongst the top searches in Pakistan and its increasing by 350% which is huge followed by “Youtube” and “Pakistani Girls”. If you look at the top searches in Pakistan, you will came to know that mostly people here are downloading movies, songs games, pictures and stuff. So, on the basis of this one can safely assume that Internet is still considered as source of entertainment but not source of information holistically speaking. Now a million dollar question is why is it so? Please keep that in mind that the results are based on Google insights and they are not survey based so this is actual Google data.
Internet marketers are really thinking out of the box so that they came up with social media networks which is a combination of information and source of entertainment as well. So a user at the same time is playing FarmVille on facebook and simultaneously ready some news shared by his or her friend on facebook. Networks like facebook, orkut or twitter are addictions for most of the users, thats why people love to be there most of the time.
