Facebook Privacy : My Boss Shouldn’t know what I am doing on Facebook

While the survey has been conducted in Malaysia, but this study can be applied anywhere in the world. According to this secure survey, 73% of the respondents haven’t added  their Bosses as friends on Facebook. The reason is pretty obvious i.e. the privacy concerns. No one really wants their Bosses to track what they are actually doing on Facebook its because it would negatively affect their jobs for sure.

With the revised Facebook privacy policies, many people have serious privacy concerns . Back in 2009, many people have deleted their photo albums when the profile picture went public and could be shown to the users who are not in the friends list. According to the survey by F-secure, almost 56% of the respondents have backed up their photos from Facebook.  Employed people have great concerns about these new Open privacy policies because now they have to be careful while sharing anything, commenting on someone’s status. In a nutshell, they can’t do anything openly like they used to be.

Facebook getting too much personal!!!

We are living in a era of Information technology where social media networking is of the key factors which has become a part of our daily routine. We share lots of stuff over social media sites like facebook.

Facebook is the largest network of social networking site with tens of millions of active users. Facebook has recently made some new changes in the privacy settings so now more information is publicly available which includes your city, education, interests and also friends. The pages with the button “Become a fan” have turned into “LIKE” button and the pages you LIKED will become a part of your profile that is publicly available to the world.

So under the old privacy settings, one could easily write “Swimming” or “Cooking” as your interests and still hide them from the public but Thanks to Facebook for the new settings which has made people’s life more miserable by removing this system and now the randomos can search also by filtering results based on interests. So things you share becomes a in the knowledge of outer world even if you don’t want to . But Thanks to U.S senators who have taken action against these new privacy settings and asked Facebook to roll back to the previous ones. On 27th April, the US senetaor, have also written a letter to Zuckerberg in which they have asked them to roll back the recent changes Facebook has made. Now lets see how he responds.

Facebook is no doubt the most hip and happening tool for all teenagers and youngsters but now the old generation has also stepped into the world of social media. As the target market is expanding and facebook is no more a tool for just young generation; CEO Mark Zuckerberg has decided to add more value to it. Facebook is going to introduce some new tools which will allow the users to see personalized version of websites they visit.

This personalized version version will be based on the things which users share with friends, their hobbies, the musical bands they like etc. Facebook is taking the social media to the next level now. So for example if you like a band and you have mentioned it on Facebook, the new tools are going to tell you information like when they are coming to your area for concert. Mark called this concept as “Being more Social!!”
