Ramadan Kareem – As I See It

We Muslims are celebrating the month of blessings which is called as Ramadan. I would just like to give a brief review about how it is and what it means to me.

ramadan Kareem

The month of Ramadan is meant to train Muslims to strenghthen their Iman by QURAN, control nafs (Self/ Desires) , develop feelings of compassion for less fortunate and to gain as much ajar as possible.

Ramadan is not the month of Cooking Shows, Laziness, Iftar Parties, Overindulgence in eating, late night shopping, sleeping while fasting, or mere Hunger strike without avoiding sins. You need to spend your Ramadan in Ibadat. Eat lesser and simpler food in Ramadan and get yourself involved in as much Ibabdat as you can, ask for forgiveness with a true heart.

Avoid watching movies, TVand listening songs. Increase your tolerance and train yourself to be extra patient, polite and forbearing in relationships and communications. Read more about Islamic Shariah and try following it in this month.

Remember your nafs (Self) can be your worst enemy and will lead you to do all Satanic deeds, even when satan will be encaged during Ramadan. So beware and keep guard on yourself.

SIMPLE and SMALL Commitments for Ramazan

  1. Think before speaking – to avoid lie
  2. Don’t see movies for time passing – Read sentence wise Translation of Holy Quran
  3. Don’t waste Dua time by opening TV before Aftaar – It’s time for acceptance of Dua
  4. Avoid anger cum conflicts with people by deferring the issue or immediate resolution – remember you are fasting

May Allah enable us to reap RAMZAN benefits and also forgive us for our wrongful acts as well as enable us to stay firm against them throughout the coming year.

Ameen!! Ramadan Kareem!! :)

What is It? Is it a kind of marketing that involves Guerrillas ?? This is going to be the reaction of most of those people who are coming across this term for the very first time. Before showing the amazing and creative examples, I would like to clear out what Guerrilla marketing actually is.

The primary concept related to Guerrilla Marketing was originally invented as an untraditional means of promotions that truly relies on imagination, energy and time rather than just a huge budget.

Normally, the guerrilla marketing campaigns are unconventional and unexpected, being potentially interactive, and the consumers are targeted in unpredicted places. The purpose of Guerrilla marketing is to come up with thought-provoking, engaging, and unique concepts that could generate a buzz and therefore turn viral.

This particular kind of marketing comprises of unusual approaches like street giveaways of products, PR stunts,  intercept encounters in public places, or anything unconventional that is targeted to acquire the maximum results by making use of minimal resources.

Following are some of the best and most creative Guerrilla Marketing examples that I would like sharing with everyone here.. See and enjoy! :)

You must have heard about flying robots and as a matter of fact technological advancements have led to a large number of robots that can fly but just none of them can even fly like a real bird. This could never happen until Markus Fischer along his team at Festo came up with a SmartBird which is actually a light weighted but large robot primarily modeled as a seagull and it flies by flapping its wings. The demo was being given from TEDGlobal in year 2011.

TEDTalks happens to be a daily video podcast of the best performances and talks from the TED Conference, and they have world leading doers and thinkers giving the talk of their lives just in 18 minutes time. There have featured speakers as well and it included JJ Abrams ”Lost” producer on the allure of mystery, Bill Gates on mosquitoes and malaria, Pattie Maes on the “Sixth Sense” wearable tech, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke,Philippe Starck on design, and Al Gore on climate change.

TED actually is abbreviation for Technology, Entertainment, Design and basically TEDTalks is the one which covers all of these topics as well as arts, development, business, and science.

Check Out this Video and You will be amazed by the technology and how man has been able to make such robots that not only fly but fly like a real bird!! Enjoy Watching!! :)

Google+ has more than 10 million users at present. WOW! It certainly shows that each and every Internet user is truly excited about it and there are people who find themselves too cool while they are using Google+ among their friends. It’s pretty obvious that whenever Google launches something, it comprises of such things that people never think of using and this makes them really excited about using it. There have been numerous blogs that are focusing Google+ these days; one of the most prominent reviews I came across was ‘Google+ is just another form of Facebook but with No Friends!”google+

Since the release of this service, it demand has been elevated to a great extent and the popular figures are already followed by tens of thousands of people. Although, Google+ is coming across various criticisms, yet it has created a buzz over the World Wide Web and people are  switching to it just to see how this new social networking medium works and it has become a rival to social media giant Facebook.

Google is already working on the criticism that is posted by its users and they should be expecting the changes in the coming week. Google’s senior vice-president Vic Gondotra has stated this.

We all are aware of the fact that Google is somewhat behind via its social networking rivals. Facebook last week announced that it has more than 750 million users and on the other hand, Twitter holds more than 300 million users.

Let’s see if Google+ can break all the records and if Internet users really stick to it! Good Luck Google+ !!

Google Plus Vs Facebook

I know everyone is excited about using Google+ and most of us are dying to use it. Certainly when Google launches something, it has many things which you really never thought of.  I was reading different reviews about Google + and I agree to one of the comments that Google + is just like facebook with no friends

Some of the Pros : More or less, the interface is the same except Google’s traditional White background everywhere.  You will see the interface is very user-friendly and doesnt look like a clutter ( which new users experience when they start using Facebook). The most killer feature of Google+ is Hangout which is video conferencing feature with atmost 10 people at one time. I havent tried this feature yet but thats what it says.  Other than that, terminologies are different like Friends are called ‘Circles’ and the categorization is very easy as you just need to drag and drop friends in a group. Sparks is a decent feature where you can tag the keywords to followup with the latest happenings and news.

Now comes to the Cons - First of all, No Wall, No message inbox and I am still figuring out how to do it.  The interface is friendly yet very basic indeed. I am sure Google must be working on this as well because there is alot to done in terms of adding things.

Recommendations to Google : Add and integrate Google other products where user can check email while working on Google Plus. There are no gadgets at all so its more like Twitter’s upgraded version with some additional and flashy features. Google can do a lot better than this because in order to increase the stay time on Google plus, they need to do something other than people just come and updating their statuses on a new website. Google’s webstore is a very good option which should be integrated in Google Plus where people can play games, add other apps to their Google interface just like we have high level of customization on Android. Google has beaten Iphone who has ruled the world for many years and I am sure, Facebook is just another piece of cake if they do well.

All the best to Google!

Women of tomorrow

Posted: 5th July 2011 by Arsalan Ali Baig in Advertising, Marketing

Women control the majority of purchasing decisions in a household and their influence is growing. Women across the world are expanding beyond traditional roles to influence decisions in the home, in business and in politics. Marketers have a massive opportunity to better connect women with the products they buy and the media technologies they use to make a positive impact both in their lives and in the bottom line. So what traditional and new media influencers are most successful in driving women’s purchase decisions? Do women in developed countries think and act differently than women in emerging countries? What concerns do women have now and what do they expect for future generations? Do traditional roles still exist or do men and women share responsibilities equally? Importantly, how can marketers not only reach women more effectively, but how can they create messaging that better speaks to the sentiments and emotions that drive and empower women? To answer these questions, Nielsen surveyed women across generations and from all corners of both developed and emerging economies. Reaching out to 21 countries representing 60 percent of the world’s population and 78 percent of GDP, this study provides insight into how current and future generations of female consumers shop and use media differently.

The findings are both enlightening and surprising. One universal truth prevails: women everywhere believe their roles are changing and they are changing for the better.

The highlights of this study are :

1- 90% of women believe their role is changing for the better.

2- A vast horizon of opportunities, but a plateau of hope in developed economies.

3- Increasingly empowered, increasingly stressed.

4- When it comes to life’s decisions, women want to share responsibility.

5- Across generations women are alike in many ways, but they are also unique.

6- Social media has become an indispensable tool.

7- Only 10% of women are highly influenced by web ads with social context.

8- She trusts those she knows.

9-TV is the preferred source to get information about new products and services.

10- Across 95% of countries, quality is the #1 driver of brand loyalty.

Do you remember Orkut, Google Buzz, or Google Wave? Without acquiring much of the success, now it is considering obtaining Facebook – the social networking giant. This happens to be one of its largest efforts yet.

Lately, Google has launched the Google+ project which happens to be a social networking service which is more or less like Facebook. The service presently is available to selected Google users, they will be able to invite people, and this way they will discuss and share status updates, links, and photos pretty much as they do on Facebook.

On the other hand, Google+ project will be different in a noteworthy manner, which Google anticipates will be adequate to convince people around to make use yet another social networking portal.

It is primarily focusing sharing with groups such as hiking friends, roommates, or colleagues and not with all of one’s peers or the entire World Wide Web. It is also offering video chat and group text messaging feature.

Vice president for product management at Google, Bradley Horowitz stated that we have windows and walls in real life and we can speak to them knowing that they are in the room but when it comes to the online world, you are required to have a ‘share’ box with which you can easily share anything with the while world. Senior vice president for engineering at Google, Vic Gundotra states that Google+ project is actually a different model.google+ ishtihari

Google is unable to rank itself especially when it comes to social networking; it is for the reason that the competitor know all too well and their services are fully dominating the market.

Initially, Google+ will be testing if it can easily overcome its prior stumbles concerning this particular area and dealing with one of the most critical challenges that the company is facing. Right now, Google’s status is at stake as one of the most popular entry point to the entire Web. While people are posting on Facebook, it is normally off-limits when it comes to search engines; Google has been losing valuable information that could be benefiting its advertising, Web search and various other products.

On the other hand, Google+ may perhaps already be too late. comScore states that this year, in the month of May, around 180 million people browsed through different Google portals which included YouTube, comparing with 157.2 million on Facebook. However, Facebook users have been browsing through 103 billion pages spending 375 minutes on an average on the websites whereas Google users viewed only 46.3 billion pages spending 231 minutes.

These figures have been truly imperative for the advertisers and to the fact that people have been increasingly turning to Facebook and various other social networking portals such as Twitter and ask question which they used to ask from Google like asking for a recommendation to a doctor or a restaurant.

Analysts’ states that Facebook users are most likely going to duplicate their friend’s network on Google+ and will be posting on both these portals; however they can make use of both for different forms of communication.

Mr. Horowitz and Mr. Gundotra state that knowing more about Google users individually would be truly helpful in improving the overall Google product experience which includes maps, YouTube, search, and ads, for the reason that Google will be learning about what actually people like to have and how they eventually personalize Google products.

On the other hand, Google has been greatly criticized for failing to fully understand the significance related to social information on the World Wide Web until competitors such as Twitter and Facebook had already leapt ahead. Google’s co-founder, Larry Page regrets that Google has been a failure in this regard.

Google Buzz has been a sharing tool particularly for the Gmail users. It included user’s emails automatically to their Buzz network, which had been facing huge criticism that Google has been invading users’ privacy and have failed to understand this vital point that everyone is the email list or contact list are not necessarily their friends. Google altered this service so now it doesn’t connect people automatically.

Unlike Google Buzz, its employees have tested Google+ before making it public. It has been called as Google+ a project that is useful in emphasizing on the fact that it is not a finished product. Google states that it will be undergoing various modifications to introducing new feature and fixing problems. However, it happens to be a new web portal, plus.google.com and is a fully formed social networking portal by Google as yet.

Mr. Horowitz and Mr. Gundotra stated that they took great pains to mimic people relationships in real life and tried to bring down the social awkwardness such as over-sharing and friend requests normally lead to on other networking portals. Google+ users will be able to easily select people from the Gmail list or any other services. They can easily drag and drop friends into different groups and name them accordingly. They can even share updates with their friends as well as on these groups. Contrasting Facebook, users are not required to be in each other’s friend list; they can easily receive and share updates without sharing their own.

Google+ is offering various other features such as group video chats, which are called as Hangouts which means that each and every member of the group can easily join as it is happening. Another section called as Sparks provide videos and articles from all across the Web on particular topics. They can be easily shared with certain groups of friends.

When it comes to Google+ mobile app for iPhone and Android phones, people can easily have group chats with the feature known as Huddle. Videos or photos can be easily uploaded via cell phones to the user albums and Google+ users can easily post and view them from their systems or smartphones.

Google is just trying to bring in a million of users to in a manner that happens to be a great challenge as a start up. I don’t think people are much willing to let go off Facebook but exciting and amazing feature could be grabbing their attention, making Google+ most preferred networking medium.
